Women-in-Construction College Scholarship

Presented by the Professional Women in Building Council (PWB) & the Home Building Association of Richmond (HBAR)

The Women-in-Construction College Scholarship is an annual award designed to support and empower the next generation of female leaders in the homebuilding industry. Each year, we award $2,000 to a student pursuing post-secondary education in a construction-related field, helping remove financial barriers and opening doors to high-growth, high-impact careers.

  • Women currently represent a small percentage of the construction workforce—especially in skilled trades and leadership roles. By providing financial support and industry encouragement, this scholarship helps:

    • Expand the skilled labor pipeline during a nationwide workforce shortage

    • Increase diversity and innovation in the homebuilding industry

    • Create pathways for women to enter, grow, and lead in construction

    • Promote economic mobility through access to high-paying, stable careers

  • Applicants must:

    • Identify as female

    • Be a graduate (or resident) of one of the Greater Richmond counties.

    • Be accepted into an accredited college, university, or trade school

    • Pursue a construction-related field such as:
Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Carpentry, Welding, Building Sciences, or similar programs

    • Completed application form (including name, contact information, school, major, GPA, and current year in program)

    • Official or unofficial transcripts

    • A short essay (250–500 words) describing your career goals in the construction industry

    • One or more letters of recommendation

      • Ideally from a professor, instructor, or work supervisor

    • Submission of all materials by the stated deadline

    • Application Opens: November 30
